Perhaps those most enthusiastic about AI are those most frightened of the existence of God behind life, faith in that God, ethics beyond their own wants and needs, consideration of their fellow man, and their own mortality. Is it no mistake that most of those leaders in technology resemble flawed and strange little boys, even when they are 70? That is an unsettling thought.
I am beginning to believe that we have trespassed into Mary Shelley's world of Frankenstein's monster, but instead the monster is being worshipped as a god and a savior (those who don't believe in God would not capitalize it as such). I know on Substack we debate all the virtues and sins of AI in its multiple forms, but their creators (and merchandisers--Sam Altman is a mercher) cannot seem to stop and consider the consequences of their actions.
As a student of WWII history, it makes me think of Werner Heisenberg, who in truth did not deliberately slow the Nazi atom bomb program as he claimed (errors, resources, and direction were the causes), but it is almost that in this moment we need a Heisenberg figure to slow AI down until we can deal with it as a society. What the alternative may be is a New Serfdom and a Dark Ages.
I am one of 7 billion humans on this beautiful green blue planet with independent thought and I drive my own destiny. Why am I here? When you drill down into the micro level of human existence you come to respect the complexity of the human cell that functions liker a fine Swiss watch which has a multitude of components working in harmony. Rather than respect the creativity of God, man wants to interfere with cellular function by sending messenger RNA into the cells to reprogram the functionality of God's design. This will not end well.
Of course you wouldn't. I seem to recall you're a Catholic.
This is discussed among some Alt-Right Christian groups. You can dismiss it easily as just a high-tech extension of the anti-Catholic stance taken by Martin Luther, William Miller, Herbert Armstrong and a lot of the 20th century evangelicals.
I study it because it's interesting. Your mileage may vary.
"And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed."
The "Beast" in Revelation, according to many interpretations, is the modern reincarnation of the Roman or Babylonian empire, which is clearly American and Western European culture and/or its leadership. The "image" would be its greatest and most dangerous manifestation, the grotesque golem of Artificial Intelligence.
Interestingly, neither the Catholic Church nor the Zionist state is represented in a favorable light by students of the Beast-Image thesis.
That's a great take on the Pope's encyclical.
Last week, I wrote about the Architecture of 'Voice when writing with AI and trying to protect the 'you' in what we eventually publish. https://haverin.substack.com/p/the-architecture-of-voice
I guess there's a companion piece out there somewhere to address the Architecture of Soul

Maybe the Pope started reading Revelation:
"And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed."

I certainly would not agree with that interpretation of Revelation.
